Saying 'no' to trafficking

Demanding a trafficking free world for the children, the Centre for Women and Children Studies (CWCS) marked thePahela Boishakh1411 yesterday. About 10 schools from the city and 15 other organisations of its network participated at the daylong fair held at its premises, says a press release. A film depicting trafficking of women and children was screened on the occasion to create awareness on the issue.

Ishtiaque Ahmed, Executive Director of Aparajeyo Bangladesh, inaugurated the Boishakhi Mela while Professor Ishrat Shamim, President of CWCS, Nurul Abedin, Project Director of ATSEC Bangladesh Chapter, and Wahida Banu, Program Director of Aparajeyo Bangladesh, also attended the inaugural session.

Ishtiaque Ahmed, who witnessed camel racing in Dubai, said a considerable number of male children, victims of trafficking, were leading a miserable life there. He stressed on the need of community awareness for its prevention.

Ishrat Shamim said people in general and guardians and students in particular should be made aware about the menace of trafficking.

Nurul Abedin and Wahida Banu also spoke on the occasion and urged people to come forward for creating awareness among masses by organising such programmes.
