Shahjahan Chowdhury's Uttarer Khep and Ek Khanda Jami to be screened

Uttarer Khep will be screened on May 20.

Shahjahan is the director, screen playwright and dialogue writer of this film, based on Shawkat Osman's novel Uttarer Khep. Before the release of the film in 2004, Champa had bagged the National Award for her performance as the central character for the film in 2002. Shahjahan says, "After getting approval from the Censor Board, any movie can compete for awards. And so Champa got the award in 2002. Besides Champa, many popular performers like Anwara, Manna, Pijush Bandyopadhyay, Khalil and others have performed in the movie. The government has provided a grant for this film. The story line of the film revolves around a truck-driver and his family. Through the story of the couple, the lifestyle of the downtrodden has been portrayed in the movie."

Commenting on his second entry in the festival, Shahjahan says, "Ek Khanda Jami is based on a poem written by Shahabuddin Nagri. It is an Impress Tele Film production. Champa and Raisul Islam Asad are the protagonists in the film."

So far Shahjahan Chowdhury has made four movies. His first movie is Pinjor made in 1976. Besides making films, he has directed many TV plays. Reminiscing on his career, Shahjahan says, "I started as an assistant director. I had the privilege of working with eminent directors such as Khan Ataur Rahman and Subhash Datta."

Shahjahan has two more films on the anvil. Citing the upcoming works, he says, "I plan to make a film based on Tarashakar Bandyopa dhyay's novel Kabi. Moreover, I will make another film on Rizia Rahman's novel Rakter Akkhar."
