Showcasing ethnic lifestyle
Minister of Shipping Lt Col Akbar Hossain (Rtd), inaugurated the traditional folklore fair. The programme was presided over by Dr Muslehuddin Ahmed, convener of Folklore Foundation, Comilla Branch. The speakers on the occasion were Deputy Commissioner of Comilla, Md Mizanur Rahman, BNP district general secretary Jahangir Ahmed, general secretary of district Shilpakala Academy, Shah Md Salim, Thana Nirbahi Officer (TNO) Md Tajul Islam, former MP Dr Kamruzzman and Folklore Foundation, Comilla secretary Humayun Kabir Rony.
The programme took on a delightful ambience with a dance performance by over 150 colourfully attired school children. Then followed a folk dance by the Garos from Mymensingh and Tripura Adivasi artistes and another Manipuri performance in the evening. The sizeable audience cheered the indigenous dance performers.

Over 160 stalls and pavilions have been installed for the fair. Arrangement has been made for exhibition, preservation and collection of folk songs such as kobi gaan, baul songs, Lalon geeti, kirtan, Nazrul and Tagore songs, pahari dance, traditional dance of the gypsy snake charmers and more.
The fair will remain open to all from 10 am to 9 pm.
