The memorial evokes nostalgia about the Liberation War

Marking the 5th death anniversary of director, actor and theatre organiser, ASM Arzu Rahman, Shubachan Nattya Sangshad arranged a programme on June 27.The venue of the programme was the Buddhijibi Smriti Shoudho (Martyr Intellectuals' Memorial) of Rayer Bazar. The Arzu Memorial Theatre Award to aspiring, young directors, was announced for the first time.

Eminent theatre personalities Aly Zaker, Mamunur Rashid, Nasiruddin Yousuff, Mannan Hira and Golam Quddus took part in the discussion.

The memorial programme was inaugurated by Aly Zaker and the Arzu Memorial Award was announced by Mamunur Rashid. As part of the programme, three plays were staged by Shubachan Nattya Sangshad. The plays were: 1971- written by Humayun Ahmed and directed by Kamal Ahsan Bipul; Nikhoj Nashika- written by Asadul Islam Asad and directed by Faiz Zahir; Warish-written by Mannan Hira and directed by Faiz Zahir. The theme of 1971 and Warish was the Liberation War. Nikhoj Nashika was a satire about present day society.

Shubachan Nattya Sangshad, established in 1977, plans to organise similar programmes at the same venue in future. 'This programme revives old memories of the war. It reminds us of the war and the great intellectual personalities who were the martyrs of the war. More such functions should be staged here, ' says Md Ali Haider, the chief organiser of the programme.
