Silver jubilee celebration of BGTF begins today
BGTF arranged a press conference at the National Press Club yesterday. Secretary General of BGTF, Liaquat Ali gave an update of today's events to mark the organisation's silver jubilee celebration at the Experimental Theatre Stage at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy at 5 p.m.
The programme is likely to draw people from different strata of society. The evening will include cultural events and staging of excerpts from two plays Galileo and Binodini. Presidium members-- M Hamid, Keramat Moula and secretaries of the executive committee of BGTF were present at the press conference. Mamunur Rashid, the chairperson of BGTF, presided over the programme.

Mamunur Rashid said, "From its inception, the Federation has played an active role in promoting cultural awareness among the masses and encouraging the growth of a theatre culture. The abrogation of Acting Control Act is our major achievement. However, we are yet to get any support from the government."
At the press conference, the theatre leaders announced a 10- day drama festival which will begin from December 2 at the Experimental Theatre Stage and stage 10 popular stage plays. It is a fundraiser effort to support the treatment of theatre activist Mujibur Rahman Dilu, who has been suffering from GBS.
