Subir Nandy enthralling the audience
If music be the food of love, play on'. This was mentioned in Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, referring to the sweet music played, or probably love for all that matter. However, the magnificent performance rendered by Subir Nandi on a very recent evening, portrayed his apparent love for the music he played, enticing the audience.

The spacious and tastefully decorated, fairly new convention centre located at Gulshan 1, belonging to the Spectra group, had organised a musical night with Subir Nandi. The popular VJ Jewel, introduced Nandi to all and marked the show's beginning. Nandi began with popular tracks, flaunting fabulous vocal feats. His Brishtir kaachh theke was well accepted by all. The audience was seen tapping their feet and swaying to Nandi's melodious Aamar e duti chokh, Paharer kanna theke and many other songs. Manna Dey's Deep chhilo, shikha chhilo was enjoyed thoroughly by the audience, when Nandi presented variations in his voice, and seemed to play along with the particular composition. This particular song also had the violin and the guitars harmonising, building a stirring performance all together.

Subir Nandi had Richard Kishore accompanying him on the acoustic guitar, Sunil Chandra Das on the violin and Biplob on the tabla. In between the numbers, Nandi kept the audience sitting transfixed with his memorable accounts from the past. He spoke of the various eminent people he had worked with including Manna Dey.

Speaking with the maestro himself, Nandi informs that he took his first music lessons from Ustad Babar Ali Khan, Bidit Lal Das (folk song) and also from his mother and elder brother. He basically tries to learn a little something from every music director he works with stressing that there is no end to learning.

Nandi recalls his first performance which was broadcast on Sylhet radio in the year1967. Later on, in the year 1974 he performed for Dhaka Radio and Television and also sang playback for films.

His devotion for Manna Dey developed from his appreciation for the way Manna Dey performed. Nandi mentioned that he preferred Kabir Bakul, Kamruzzaman Kajol, Ahmed Rizvi, Milon khan, Prodip Shah and Saiful Islam Bokul as present day lyricists.

Regarding performing in the fairly new convention centre, Nandi stated that he had loved performing at the Spectra Convention Centre and looked forward to many more of such performances in the future.
