A musical programme on Bangla songs of the yesteryears was held at the Biswa Sahittya Kendra auditorium recently. The function was arranged by Srijan, a cultural organisation and sponsored by Pepsi. Srijan has been arranging similar programmes every month for the last two years.

Director of Srijan and assistant teacher of Chayanat Nurul Islam Palash said, 'I started Srijan with inspiration from Dr Sanjida Khatun. 'Srijan's job is to extend patronage to the artistes who practice old Bangla songs.'

Nabiha Hasan, Shumon Majumder, Arjumand Ara, Munir Chowdhury, Manjury Zaman Mir, Ruma, Farzana Bobby, and Nasima Shaheen performed their songs at this function. Prominent singer Shaheen Samad was the chief guest of the programme.

Appreciating the endeavour of Srijan, Shaheen said, 'I hope that the upcoming singers will contribute to the promotion of music. I also expect that they will overcome the present day corruption and proudly move ahead.'

'Srijan wishes to further boost their activities. A few more organisations should come forward to patronise such programmes,' said the director Nurul Islam Palash.
