Swapnokuri Shommanona Padak 2002

Swapnokuri--a literary and cultural organisation for youths founded 17 years ago, gave away its Honorary Medal 2002 recently at the Poet Sufia Kamal auditorium of the National Museum. The recipients were eminent singer Bashir Ahmed and flutist Gazi Abdul Hakim.

This was Swapnokuri's second award that it confers on educationists, litterateurs and cultural personalities. Introduced in 2001, the first year's honour went to acclaimed Lalon-singer Farida Parveen and educationist Professor Ashraf Ali.

State Minister for cultural affairs, Begum Selima Rahman handed the awards, which comprised of an amount of ten thousand taka and a crest. Popular playback singer of the 1960s Bashir Ahmed quoted 'Ei monihaar amay nahi shajey' from Rabindranath Tagore, and said, that Swapnokuri's was one of his greatest achievements so far. Internationally acclaimed flutist Gazi Abdul Hakim termed the Swapnokunri award as one of his three significant achievements.
