Tagore's 65th death anniversary observed

Artistes of Shurerdhara perform at Bishwa Shahitya Kendro

City dwellers were in for a treat at the programme held in the afternoon. Beauty of literary verses flowed in the form of ecstatic and thought-provoking Tagore songs and poetry. Shurerdhara, a cultural organisation, held the programme titled Shorashori Rabindranath at the Bishwa Shahittya Kendro.

Selected songs of Tagore were evocatively and melodiously rendered by more than 40 artistes, including noted Tagore artistes Rezwana Chowdhury Banya, Sadi Mohammed, Mohiduzzaman Chowdhury and Laisa Ahmed Lisa.

The evening also included poetry recitation by Kazi Arif and Joyanto Chattapadhay. Their recital touched upon various subjects such as the disparity that exists in society and the cost of achieving greatness.

The event was followed by an interactive session with Dr Anisuzzaman, professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed and Karunamoy Goswami. Veteran artist Hashem Khan drew a sketch on the spot. Noted poet Asad Chowdhury anchored the programme.

The programme was broadcast live by Channel i. Citi Bank NA Bangladesh Ltd sponsored the event.

Albums of Tagore songs launched
On August 6, a launching ceremony of a collection of five albums (audio-video CDs) featuring performances by Rezwana Chowdhury Banya was held at Hotel Sheraton. Dhaka. Dr Anisuzzaman launched the package.

The collection includes 12 seasonal songs of Tagore, songs of Atul Prasad, two video CDs (VCD) of Tagore songs and a VCD of the dance drama Chitrangada.

Impress Audio Vision Limited produced the albums.

Udichi's cultural programme
Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Gosthi Dhaka City Committee organised a programme at the Natmondol theatre in Dhaka University. Songs, recitals and dance performances were the main attractions of the evening. The programme was presided over by the president of the committee, professor Kazi Madina.

The event took off with a choral rendition of Aguner paroshmoni... Soon after eminent personalities such as Dr Biswajit Ghosh, Udichi Central Committee President, Professor Jatin Sarkar, current General Secretary Mahmud Selim, and Dhaka City Committee's General Secretary Jamshed Anwar Tapan spoke at the occasion.

While the first part focused on Tagore's life, literature and philosophy, the second half featured solo music performances by Mridula Bhattacharji, Mamun Zahid Khan, Tapan Bhattacharji, Chhaya Kormokar, among others. Poetry recitors were Belayat Hossain, Hasan Arif, Mashkur-e Sattar Kallol and Jhorna Sarkar.

The programme ended with two performances, one titled Joyjatraye Jao, directed by Ahsan and produced by Udichi, and the second one titled Aji pronomi tomay, directed by Iqbal Ahsan and produced by Brindo Abritti.
