Tête-à-tête with Tony and Priya

A couple that complements each other
Tony and Priya Dayes, a husband and wife duo, are talents to watch out for. Tony is an established TV actor. Priya's career graph, as a dancer, model, actress and a television anchor, looks promising.

The Daily Star's (TDS) Shilpi Mahalanobish recently spoke to the couple.

TDS: How did you step into this media?

Tony: Like many other children I used to perform in plays at our neighborhood functions. I watched the play Noor-ul din er shara jibon on stage when I was very young. I enjoyed it tremendously. I felt an urge to work with that group and talked to eminent actor Asaduzzaman Noor. After completion of my HSC, I joined his theatre group. I had performed a lot of dramas on stage by then-- Modhushudon, Aoholayoto and Gallilio.

Ten years later, I took an audition on television. I acted in the TV serial Tothapi of Zia Ansari right after my audition. With private production coming up, I devoted myself to acting on TV.

Priya: I happened to enter this media through my dancing. I was just four when I began taking dancing lessons. I completed my certificate course from Jhankar Lalitakala Academy.

TDS -- Tell us about your recent works.

Tony: Now, the TV serials Tin Purush, Khowab, Anekey Aka, Kichu Megh Kichu Roddur, are on air.

Priya: In the programme Tiffiner Fakke I have worked with children. I have done a new advertisement which would come on air shortly.

TDS: Many of your colleagues are venturing into cinema these days. Do you have plans to do likewise?

Tony: I have done an advertisement after 10 years. But I wanted to establish myself as an actor first. The world of cinema is a dream to me. It can not be compared to anything else. It is the most entertaining medium in our country. But unfortunately the film industry is slowly decaying here. If the technical side were improved, then I would have probably been in films by now. In fact, I often watch films in cinema halls.

TDS: What would you like to call yourself? A dancer, a model, an actress or a television anchor?

Priya: I would like to be identified as a dancer. It is my first priority.

Tony: I would like to say a few words on this issue. I have been noticing since my childhood. that the dancing programmes are not given much importance on TV. The programmes are telecast mostly on off peak hours..

TDS: Has there been a personality clash between you two?

Priya: No. Tony has always encouraged my endeavours.

Tony: I think we act for a living, not live to act. My family is my priority. If my acting career becomes a menace, I will quit acting. Enjoyment in life would always be my priority.
