Theatre activists pay homage to Najma Anwar

Theatrical and cultural groups paid their last respects to Najma Anwar with flower bouquets. After observing a one-minute silence, Chitralekha Guha's rendition of Brahma Sangeet Morey daki loye jao cast a sad note on the programme. Ferdousi Majumder then recited a panegyric in memory of the late artiste.

The evening took on a nostalgic overtone as Najma's co-actors, friends and relatives shared their memories of her. Mannan Heera said,'She had the strange capability to transform herself into the character of a play. Being the General Secretary of Aranyak she was very strict about the rules and regulations.'

Abdullah Al Mamun regretted that 'we could neither use her talent properly nor judge it'. 'Najma Anwar overcame all the meanness of the society and fundamentalism and we will not let her memories fade away,' said Golam Kuddus.

Ramendu Majumder proposed to publish a memorandum on Najma Anwar and introduce an award in her name. Mamunur Rashid said on his co-artiste, 'We worked together more than a decade and she was among a few artistes of Bangladesh whose popularity crossed the boundaries of the country.'

Nasiruddin Yousuff Bachchu, Saiful Islam Mahmud, Sayeeda Islam, M Hamid, Keramat Meola, Najma Anwar's eldest son Nagib Kalam, Ahkamullah also spoke on the occasion.
