Theatre Art Unit's weeklong drama festival begins with fanfare

Rokya Rafiq Baby, the chief of the theatre group, and co-convenor of the festival Mohammad Bari briefed the journalists about the drama festival at the press conference.

Four popular theatre groups of the country -- Aranyak, CAT, Natyakendra and Theatre Art Unit-- will stage Shonkranti, Brand, Projapoti and Golapjan respectively in the festival. Moreover two theatre groups from Kolkata-- Anya Theatre and Chupkatha will stage four plays. Shodhbodh and Nakchhabita are Anya Theatre productions while Dui Taranga and Mrs. Soriano are the Chupkatha productions included in the festival.

Former Chief Justice Mohammed Habibur Rahman will be the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the drama festival today at the National Theatre Stage while Indian theatre personality Bivas Chakravarti will be present as special guest.

The opening ceremony will be followed by a theme dance performance. Moreover, 15 theatre personalities of the country will be honoured for their outstanding contribution to theatre in Bangladesh.

After the inauguration of the festival at 4 p.m., Theatre Art Unit will stage their popular play Golapjan at 6:30 p.m. at the National Theatre Stage.
