Theatre Festival in Narayanganj and Chittagong begins

Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation's (BGTF) Dhaka division drama conference followed by a eight-day long drama festival was inaugurated by Mamunur Rashid, the President of BGTF at Chunka, Narayanganj on December 3. General Secretary of BGTF, Liaquat Ali Lucky was the special guest of the programme. The festival is a joint venture of BGTF and Bengal Foundation.

The drama conference started with a colourful rally. Later, the BGTF leaders analysed the problems and activities of the theatre activists of Dhaka division. Three groups from Narayanganj and one group from Munshiganj, Jamalpur, Narsingdi, Mymensingh and Tangail are staging plays in the eight-day long drama festival.

M Faruk Koraishi, SM Fazar Ali, Ganesh Guha, Younis Mia, Jayanta Shanyal and Kutubuddin Ahmed were awarded at the conference for their contribution to the development of theatre in the district level.

Another fortnight long drama festival titled 'Group Theatre Mela- 2004', arranged by Chattogram Group Theatre Forum, has started at Shilpakala Academy, Chittagong from December 3, which ends on December 17. The aim of the festival is to strengthen theatre practice in Chittagong.

Besides Loko Natyadal Dal from Dhaka, 14 other local theatre groups will stage 15 plays in the drama festival. Moreover, open air drama, group songs, drama songs, dance and pantomime are included in the fortnight long festival.
