Theatre and other art forms can go a long way in generating awareness about social issues at the grassroots level. A recent case in point was Transparency Interna-tional Bangladesh's (TIB) five-day long training programme to increase the awareness of simple tea garden labourers through theatre. The convener of the programme, Professor Sayeed Mujibur Rahman, senior training officer of TIB Riaz Uddin Khan and Advocacy official Towfiqul Islam were present at the programme, says a press release.

Sixteen people participated in this training programme and developed a play, Jago Manush. The play centred on the plight of the underprivileged tea garden labourers. It depicted their day-to-day sufferings and their struggle to stand up for their rights and put an end to corruption. The main objective was to build awareness against corruption, particularly among the younger generation. The premier show of Jago Manush was launched on March 26 in an open stage near the city municipality.
