Theatre Institute Chattagram kicks off its journey

A discussion session took place at the local Muslim Institute Hall prior to the formal inauguration ceremony. Prominent cultural activists of the country including singer Kalim Sharafi, litterateur Syed Shamsul Haque, theatre personalities Mamunur Rashid, Ataur Rahman, Nasiruddin Yousuff, Dr. Nizamuddin Ahmed, Mahabubul Alam Chowdhury, Zia Haidar and others took part in the discussion.

In his opening speech Director of TIC Ahmed Iqbal Haidar described the three-year journey to establish the institute in Chittagong.

Discussants focused on the glorious theatrical activities of Chittagong, which had become stagnant because of the crisis of venue. They highly appreciated the initiatives taken by the Mayor of CCC, Mahiuddin Chowdhury, to change the scenario by establishing a full-fledged theatre institute. They appealed to everyone's awareness so that the noble initiative does not become a victim of political influence.

Mayor Mahiuddin Chowdhury said, 'To save it from any political polarisation, within a short time I will form a trustee board involving the leading cultural activists.'

Along with staging plays, the painters also can display paintings in the gallery of TIC.
