Three day programme for promising dancers
The opening ceremony was presided over by Quamrul Hassan, DG of BSA. Sunil Chandra Das, director of Department of Dance and Music, delivered the welcome speech and eminent dancer Rahija Khanom Jhunu was the main discussant at the inauguration programme.
Sunil Chandra Das said, "Promoting younger artistes of the country is one of the major responsibilities of BSA. Each year BSA arranges promotional programmes for the dancers and singers. Such arrangements provide a great opportunity for the promising artistes to prove their worth. The talented dancers will be included in the cultural teams sent abroad."

Most of the participants are from Dhaka. On the selection process of the dancers from outside Dhaka, Dipa Khondokar an official of Department of Dance and Music pointed out that the department asked for the names of the talented dancers at the district levels from the officials of district Shilpakala academies. Dipa said, "Based on their recommendations, the artistes have been invited to perform in the programme."
Besides 11 participants from Dhaka, dancers from Barisal, Faridpur, Jamalpur, Cox's Bazar and Patuakhali performed dances on the opening day. Young artistes presented folk, Manipuri, classical and other forms of dance. However, holding of the dance programme out in the open, evoked criticism.
