Tribute to MA Samad
Born in 1939, he graduated in cinematography from British Film Institute in 1961 and started his career as a cameraman of BBC Television in 1962. Earlier, he worked as an apprentice during the productions of famous movies Guns of Navaron, The Bridge on the River Kawai and Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.
Samad was the cinematographer of sixty popular movies including Abirbhab, Isa Khan, Sangram, Rupban, Ora Egaro Jon, Tero No. Feku Ostagar Lane, Bhagyachakra, Aparajeyo. He also directed three films Surjagrohon (1976), Surjo Sangram (1979) and Shiri Farhad (1986).

He was awarded the National Film Award twice: in 1967 for cinematography of Surjogrohon and in 1979 for the story of Surjo Sangram. His much acclaimed film Surjo Sangram was also awarded in the Moscow Film Festival in 1979. He also achieved the BACHSHASH Award.
Samad was the founder President of Bangladesh Cinematographers' Association and the founder Principal of Film Institute of Bangladesh.
