A Tribute to Tareque Shahriar

Bangladesh Short Film Forum held a memorial meet to pay tribute to the short-film maker Tareque Shahriar who had recently died. Presided over by journalist and filmmaker Pulak Gupta, the con-ference took place at the Public Library auditorium on July 5.

The event started with one-minute silence observed in honour of the memory of the deceased. Later, eminent writer Hasnat Abdul Hye read out the biography of Tareque Shahriar. Two short films by Tarque--Kalighar and Jol O Chaka--were then screened at the event.

Hasnat Abdul Hye said in his memorial speech, 'Tareque had just started his journey in which he had left some marks of talent. Filmmaking was like a battle to him that he always wanted to win.'

Among others who paid honour to Tareque Shahriar at the event, were Syed Sujauddin Ahmed, President of People's Institute, filmmakers Morshedul Islam, Manjare Hasin Murad, Yasmeen Kabir, AKM Zakaria, Aminul Islam, dramatist Masum Reza, Aminul Haque and Gonosangeet singer Mahmuduzzaman Babu.
