TV highlights on Nazrul birth anniversary

To mark the birth anniversary of our National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, TV channels will air special programmes on May 25. The daylong schedule will include films, TV plays, musical presentations, dances and live discussions. Here's a rundown of the special programmes:

ATN Bangla
Nazrul-er Ballo Bela, a special talk show directed by Shampa Mahmud featuring Nazrul's granddaughter Khil Khil Kazi will be aired at 11:05am. Child artistes will perform dance, recitation, music and short plays in the programme.

Meher Nigar, a tele-film based on a romantic story with the same title, by our National Poet will be aired at 12:15pm. The film features Tushar Khan, Taslima, Chumki, Murad and Babu Rahman.

Produced by Impress Telefilm and directed by Matin Rahman, Bangla feature film Rakkhoshi will be aired at 3:15pm. This is the second time a literary work by Nazrul has been adapted for the silver screen. Rozina, Ferdous and Purnima are in the lead roles.

Gaan-er Adda, musical programme featuring Nazrul songs by several artistes, hosted by Nashid Kamal will be aired at 1:05pm.

A special dance programme directed by Rumana Rashid Eshita will be aired at 5:30pm. At 7:50 pm TV play Bon-er Papiya will be aired. Abul Hayat has directed the play.

Ferdaus Ara's solo musical programme will be aired at 9:35pm.

A lively discussion at Bangla Academy's Nazrul Mancho, titled Nazrul Premer Adda will be aired at 10:50am.

Nazrul's poetry recited by Pragna Laboni, Bhashwar Bandyopadhyay, Hasan Arif, Ahkamullah, Laila Afroz and other are featured in the programme Nazrul-er Kobita, to be aired at 4:30pm.

Special TV play Jin-er Badshah based on a story by Nazrul will be aired at 8:50pm. Anisul Haq Milon, Jyoti and others have played the central characters in the play.

ntv
ntv will air Dhrubo, a film featuring Kazi Nazrul Islam as the mythical character 'Narad', at 10:30am. The film was co-directed by Nazrul and Satyendranath De. Among 18 songs included in the film, 17 were written by Nazrul. Other actors playing major roles in the film are Nityananda Ghatak, Parul Bala, Angur Bala and others.

Directed by Mustafa Zaman Raihani, a special musical programme featuring Nazrul songs performed by finalists of Closeup 1 will be aired at 4:25pm

Special TV play Rikter Bedon will be aired at 8:50pm. Based on Nazrul's literary work, the play features Litu Anam and Sumaiya Shimu in lead roles. The play has been directed by Ferdaus Hasan.
