Victory Day observed by BAFA

The event was divided in three sessions.

The event began with a group performance by students of BAFA's Mirpur branch. They sang Purbo digonte shurjo uthechhey. They were followed by students of the Waizghat branch. The second session featured a short discussion. Chief guest of the event was barrister Moinul Hossain, chairman of editorial board, The Daily Ittefaq. In his speech he emphasised the necessity of government support for cultural organisations. "Since its establishment in 1955, BAFA has groomed many students who later went on to become prominent artistes of the country. But rarely has the government taken any initiative to help such organisations," he said.

The third and the last session featured the main attraction of the programme: Dance-drama Shurjomukhi Nodi. Written by Dr Enamul Haq, the play featured the effects of war on the masses. The story focuses on a villager named Shujon. He is a boatman who ferries passengers. He falls in love with Shurma, a village belle. Everything goes well until the war strikes. Shurma begs Shujon to go to war and hands him a weapon. He dies in the war.

The play was produced by Rahiza Khanam Jhunu, principal of BAFA.
