A world of his own: primitive and passionate

About the figures that he has used, which appeared to be combination of base animals and metal bits put together, as one finds in science fiction, Ronni said, "Our present civilization depends on technology and science along with hybrid culture and what I present is a hypothetical society. I took my images from the drama of the absurd, science fiction, films and photography. My images cannot be labelled."
Ronni has given an explanation of his work in the brochures. If the viewer likes the visual effect he feels that his goal has been achieved. He doesn't expect everybody to understand his paintings or sketches as they are different from works that aim at pleasing the viewer. His stories are based on a civilization containing disharmony that we find even in life around us today. In his expression he tries to combine reality with elements of absurdity, cruelty, loneliness with the achievements of science and technology.
Ronni has used several mediums such as acrylic, print, crayon and charcoal , and he thinks they all support the language of his expression. In his work he tries to combine observations with wit and humour. Ronni's works have an element of mockery that is simple. The element of scorn is meant to move due to its simplicity. This simplicity is a shield for the complexities that lie behind it. If the viewers like the colours and forms , Ronni feels that is enough. " Viewers don't have to understand my work. Art doesn't necessarily have to be understood."
Syed Manzuroorul Islam, the eminent art critic, says about Ronni's works "A look at the titles of Ronni's works before viewing the works themselves is a revealing experience. 'Mushroom forest king on his trip to the yellow pond where his blind fish wife is waiting' or 'Spherical house eating existential testicles after the dismal coincidence' are explanatory in an acute and incisive way." He adds that the titles are a first step into this murky, complex world where imagination seems to have gone berserk.
A huge canvas, that appeared like some mural, done in acrylic, bearing the title "After having a great deal of imperialism we are waiting for Beckett", dealt with the onslaughts on society by imperialism. Ronni said, "I'm waiting for another Beckett to come and write about our present society." There were three heads stuck on bluish green poles. At the back was the head of a monstrous, black fish. In front was a bird held in a bottle with some flying figures that emulated jet planes in electric blue and orange. On a swing were two images which were a combination of birds, animals and vegetables. They supported a seated man and there was a conical structure that supported the swing. All around we could see images of flying creatures like balloons, floating cars, bottles, half moons, rats and other "technological hybrids" as Ronni put them.
In "The visionary reading competition described in the book of truth and herbal by Ronni Ahmed" showed a piece of wood that was chipped at this end and at one end was a walking potato. There was a ladder with the Martian type creatures trying to climb it. They had spindly legs and blobs for bodies. Some of them had their heads and stomachs joined. The figure at the top was looking out through a telescope. "This is another sarcastic interpretation of our hang up for intellectual practices," said Ronni.
Ronni writes poetry and art criticism for major dailies. He is also involved in a rock band.
