When snow falls, people at a distance

When snow falls, people at a distance
Collect thoughts
Romanticise
Energise into
Happy-go-lucky talk of
Snowpersons
With parsnip noses

Christmas carols
Beneath fir trees gone are
Heard as
Red and gold
Cascading borbles
Polished with
Recollection to gleam

The steam that wafts
From hot cups of things
Like glühwein or
Cocoa is become
A saintly message
To taste, rich and hearty
As eastern soup

See, eyes lulled
Before the fire
The saga of a grey cat
Outstretched
Purred and curled
Hopes for a tummy rub
Revisited

Upon windowsill a candle
Smokes and dances
As dark landscapes re-dress
Pure, unblemished while
Advent calendar doors
Are the cuter
For snow recalled

Reminiscence never did
Don an anorak.
There's nought that's cold from afar
Where winter is warmed.
