11 workers sued over strike call

Following the last Monday's agitation, Petrobangla's subsidiary MGMCL has remained closed.

Sources said Md Kamruzzaman, a mining engineer of MGMCL, filed a case with Parbatipur Police Station on behalf of MGMCL against the 11 workers.

They said 280 mineworkers went for an indefinite strike on Monday last demanding their jobs to be transferred to the government revenue sector and threatened to continue their agitation until their demands were realised.

MGMCL sources said the agitating workers on August 2 had a scuffle with Md Kamruzzaman over this issue. The angry workers beat him up and snatched his cellphone.

The workers alleged Blue Star appointed them about six year ago but their jobs are yet to be in the government revenue sector.

Local Chairman Md Abu Taher had tried to resolve the matter yesterday but failed to reconcile the feuding parties.
