15 injured as JCD factions clash at Jessore Polytech
At least 15 people were injured during a clash between the two factions of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) over the upcoming students' union election of the Jessore Polytechnic Institute.
Of the injured, Vice President (VP) of the students' union Jasim, Assistant General Secretary (AGS) Shamsuzzoha Shaon, Jaman, Aaurangajeb, Abdullah Al Maruf, Mujaffar Hossain and Sumon Ahmed were admitted to the hospital.
The condition of Jasim is said to be critical.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. Witnesses said a faction of JCD led by AGS Shaon brought out a procession and held a rally when the other faction led by Imran Hossain Hridoy appeared at the scene.
At one stage they were locked in an altercation leading to a clash. Both the factions ransacked several rooms of a dormitory.
A tense situation is prevailing on the campus following the clash. The election will be held on February 15 at the Institute.
