17 pc cancer patients suffer from breast cancer

This was revealed at a workshop titled 'Finalisation of curriculum for cervical and breast cancer screening programme', jointly organised by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Medical University and Directorate General of Family Planning with the support of UNFPA, at IDB Bhaban in the city yesterday.

The workshop was told that five lakh fresh cases of cervical cancer and 9.99 lakh cases of breast cancer are being reported every year across the globe.

Speaking at the workshop, the health experts underscored the need for developing healthcare facilities at various levels as well as developing care seeking behaviours among the people to prevent and reduce cervical and breast cancer in the country.

They also suggested developing a strong team of professionals with modern thoughts and equipment to address the problems.

Some 120 professionals, mostly from health services, took part in the workshop organised to finalise the curriculum for cervical and breast cancer, which would be used to train service providers on Visual Inspection by Acetic Acid (VIA) for detecting cervical cancer and Clinical Breast Examination (CBE).

Joint Secretary Dr Serajuddowla and UNFPA Representative Suneeta Mukherjee spoke at the inaugural session of the workshop presided over by Prof Sultana Jahan.
