2 cops threaten to kill my father for bribe

Md Nasim Hossain, son of businessman Md Noor Islam, said this at a press conference at Khulna Press Club yesterday.

He said, "We paid them Tk 1.10 lakh, out of Tk 3 lakh, on December 24 last year as bribe to free our father from the custody."

Nasim said constables Mostafa and Anis also threatened to arrest his father keeping arms in their residence if he (his father) fails to meet the deadline to pay the rest of the amount of bribe.

He said his father Noor Islam was brutally tortured in DB office on February 19 this year arresting him on a false allegation. They also threatened to kill my father in crossfire showing him arrested in an arms case, Nasim said.

The constables became more ruthless when his father could not pay full amount of Tk 3 lakh for exonerating from the false charge of keeping illegal arms and bombs.

Noor Islam lodged a general diary with Khulna Police Station on April 26 this year seeking security of his life and lives of his family members.

Yet, the policemen have continued to threaten to realise Tk 1.90 lakh in the name of an assistant police commissioner of DB, Nasim said. He said his father has gone into hiding fearing crossfire.
