2 get 31 years' RI for keeping heroin

Judge Mohammad Monzurul Bachhid of the Special Tribunal-5 handed down the sentence in absence of the convicts.

The convicts are Rubel alias Selim and Parvin alias Azmeri of Tejkunipara at Tejgoan area in the city.

The punishment of the fugitives will be effective from the day of their arrest or surrender, the judge said.

Earlier, the prosecution and the defence completed their arguments and the court recorded statements of six prosecution witnesses.

According to the prosecution, a team of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) raided the house of Taru Miah at Tejkunipara on June 11, 2002 and arrested Rubel of Comilla and Azmeri of Narayanganj from the area with 100 grams of heroin.

Later, CID filed a case with Tejgoan Police Station against them under the Narcotics Control Act the same day.
