2 killed, 70 injured in road accidents
A man and a woman were killed while around 60 others were injured as a Noakhali-bound bus rammed into a Comilla-bound bus at Jinglatoli in Daudkandi on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at 12:30pm, Daudkandi police said.
The injured, including five of the same family, were admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Pongu Hospital), Comilla Medical College and Hospital and a number of local clinics.
In a separate incident at Konakhola of Keraniganj, nine members of a family, including four children, sustained serious injuries as a Jinjira-bound bus hit an autorickshaw bound for Narikelbari at around 3:30pm. Locals rushed the injured to DMCH.
In another incident, one Abul Kashem and his four-year-old son Hasan were injured as a bus hit them from behind while they were trying to board a bus at Amirabad bus stand in Daudkandi.
A DMCH official said four additional nurses were deployed in ward No. 30 for neurosurgery to attend the victims of road accidents.
Similar additional deployments were also made at the Pongu Hospital.
