2 murdered in city
Police recovered the body of Sharifa Begum, 24, from the residence of Rahima Begum, an attendant of the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) at Mannan Line near Zia Colony in the Dhaka Cantonment on Sunday and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.
Police in their inquest report said they got rape evidence in Sharifa's body at the hospital. Sources in the morgue also said that Sharifa was raped before she was strangled.
Rahima told The Daily Star that Sharifa was alone in her residence in the morning when she was in the hospital and other family members were out of the residence. She said her relatives, who went to her residence at about 9:00am, found an unidentified man running away from the residence. They found Sharifa's body lying on the floor in a pool of blood, Rahima said quoting her relatives.
She said that Sharifa came to her from her Maymensingh village for a job at a garment factory about three months ago and a divorcee for more than six years.
A case has been filed with the cantonment police station in this regard.
In another incident, police recovered a body of an unidentified person aged about 34 wearing black trousers and white half shirt from near the Arts Building of the Jagannath University. Police said the man was strangled as his throat was wrapped with rope tightly.
Police suspected that on the night of Shab-e-Barat killed him.
Mizanur Rahman, a clerk of the university, filed a murder case with the Kotwali Police Station yesterday.
