20 more ex-MPs asked for explanations

Metropolitan Magistrate Rokan-Ud-Doula passed the order after an accounts officer (West) of Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB) filed 20 cases on December 7 with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM) Court, Dhaka against the former members of parliament.

The ex-lawmakers sued are Ziaul Haq Zia, Barkat Ullah Bulu, Abdul Awal, ABM Zahidul Haq, Kamruddin Yahiya Khan Majlish, Begum Rashida Khanam, Abdur Rouf, Abul Hassan Chowdhury, Redwan Ahmed, Hemayet Ullah, Syed Morshed Kamal, Mir Shawkat Ali, Golam Mohammad Siraj, Rashed Mosharraf, Imran Ahmed, Abdur Rouf Chowdhury, Tofail Ahmed, advocate Rahamat Ali, Tipu Sultan and Abul Hasnat Abdullah.

Zia owes the board Tk 2.63 lakh while Bulu Tk 3.87 lakh; Awal Tk 10.35 lakh; Zahidul Tk 27,280; Yahiya Tk 1.11lakh; Rashida Tk 1.33 lakh; Abdur Rouf Tk 58,153; Abul Hassan Tk 2.47 lakh; Redwan Tk 2.88 lakh; Hemayet Tk 2.26 lakh; Syed Kamal Tk 1.94 lakh; Mir Shawkat Tk 83,099; Golam Siraj Tk 3.89 lakh; Rashed Mosharraf Tk 1.81 lakh; Imran Ahmed Tk 3.45 lakh; Abdur Rouf Chowdhury Tk 3.08 lakh; Tofail Tk 3.01 lakh; Rahamat Tk 57,572; Tipu Sultan Tk 48,502 and Hasnat Tk 4.03 lakh.

In the complaint of the cases, the accounts officer mentioned that the former lawmakers did not clear their dues even after they were served notices. As such, the accounts officer prayed to the CMM for realising the bills under section 7(A) of the provisions of Telegraph Act 1985.
