27 students injured in CU clashes

With this casualty, a total of 27 students were injured from pelted stones and subsequent stampede on the shuttle train in the last two consecutive days.

According to sources, the clash ensued when the members of "Fatafati" - a shuttle train based group of amateur singers and "Always" another such group halted the train at city's Sholoshahar Railway Station and started pelting stones on the members of "Adytum" and "Ekakar" as the shuttle train reached there at around 8:30am.

The attack was made in retaliation of another such incident that took place over a trifling matter at Fateyabad Railway Station leaving fifteen students injured on Saturday afternoon.

At least twelve students were injured in the yesterday's battle that also forced the panic stricken students to come out of the train hurriedly resulting in a stampede.

Of the injured four were identified as Sohag, Rezoan, Farhad and Golam Rabbani.

Additional police were deployed at Fateyabad, Chowdhury Hat, Cantonment and Sholoshahar Railway Stations to avert further clash, sources said.

When contacted, CU Proctor Dr Mohammed Al Amin told the Daily Star that stern action would be taken against those who would be involved or create such clash over trifling matters in future.
