29 wounded as villagers clash in Sirajganj
At least 29 people including three women were injured in a clash between two rival groups of people at Kakilabari village in Shahzadpur upazila of Sirajganj district yesterday morning.
Of the injured, 13 were admitted to Shahzadpur Health Complex while 10 others including critically injured Hameda, 30, Hafeza, 35, Shukur Ali, 48, and Kobad Ali, 35, were taken to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital.
The clash began between two groups led by Abdul Kader and Sikdar over water supply from a deep tube well in a local boro field.
For all latest news, follow The Daily Star's Google News channel. Around 100 agitated people of the both groups equipped with lethal weapons launched attack on one another. The attackers set fire to the houses of Abdul Kader and Barkat and damaged about six other houses.
The clash continued for three hours. On information, Shahzadpur police rushed to the spot and clubbed the mob to disperse them.
Additional police forces have been deployed to avoid further violence.
