3 killed in city road accidents

Two people were killed and 20 others injured when a Dhaka bound passenger bus drove over on the roadside shops and turned upside down near Azampur bus stand at Uttara after the driver lost his control over the steering at around 5:00pm.

The dead were identified as Satyen Karmaker, 22, a blacksmith, working beside the footpath and other was a pedestrian, 20, police said. They died on the spot.

Blacksmiths Altu Mia, Swapan Karmakar, Rahim and Sabuj were admitted to the local hospitals at Uttara with serious injuries while 16 bus passengers were released after first aid, police said.

Police seized the bus along with its driver Suruj Mia.

In another incident, Mohammad Parvez, 25, a student of Sher-e-Bangla Agriculture University, was run over by a speeding bus at Elephant Road in the city while was crossing the road at around 8:30.

He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the attending doctors declared him dead.

The students of Sher-e-Bangla Agriculture University went on the rampage at Mirpur Road and damaged at least 10 vehicles as the news of death of Parvez spread on the campus at 10:00pm.
