3 shot in city

Md Ripon, a trader, was shot in his back by a group of muggers while he was returning home in a rickshaw at Shajahanpur area in the early hours.

The muggers however managed to flee the scene after being chased by the locals.

Ripon was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition.

At Purana Paltan, a gang of four stormed into the office of a construction firm on the third floor of Shabbir Tower at around 5:30pm and sprayed bullets on Vikram Das, a sweeper of the farm.

Hit in the right leg, he was rushed to DMCH.

Police suspect unknown extortionists, who had been threatening the owners of the firm for a toll of Tk 2000000, are behind the incident.

In the other incident, a group of hoodlums entered an electronics shop at Lalmohan Saha Street in Sutrapur and shot Jasimuddin, brother of the shop owner.

He received a bullet in the right leg and was admitted to the DMCH.

Jasimuddin suspects some unknown extortionists, who had been demanding toll from his brother for last few days, might have carried out the attack.
