4 die in road crashes

Our staff correspondent from Sylhet adds: Three people were killed in a road accident on the outskirts of the city yesterday.

The dead were identified as Dilal Ahmed, 20, Ayatun, 25, and a 12-year-old unidentified boy.

They hailed from Golapnagar Dakkhin Kandigaon village under Golapganj upazila.

Locals and police said the accident took place at about 12:30pm when a Tamabil-bound truck rammed into an autorickshaw which was on its way to Golapganj upazila from the city.

The three-wheeler was totally damaged leaving its driver and two passengers killed on the spot.

The truck driver managed to flee the scene after the accident.

The agitated people put up barricade on the road demanding punishment to killer driver.

Traffic on Sylhet-Kanaighat Road and Sylhet-Tamabil (city bypass) remained suspended for about two and a half hours.

Around one hundred vehicles were stranded on both sides of the roads due to barricade.

Police with the help of local leading people cleared the road at about 3-30pm after assuring the agitating people of taking steps against the driver.

Our Correspondent from Kishoreganj adds: A youth was killed in a road accident in Jalia Para area under Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila yesterday. on Kishoreganj to Dhaka highway.

The dead was identified as Abul Kashem, 30, of Sultanpur village under Kishoreganj sadar upazila.

A Dhaka-bound bus from Kishoreganj town ran over Kashem, a brickfield worker, when he was going to his workplace by a bi-cycle.

Locals rushed him to Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, hospital sources said.
