4th World Water Forum begins tomorrow
The 4th World Water Forum begins in Mexico tomorrow where Bangladesh is expected to focus on the possible disastrous effects of the Indian Inter-River Linking Project and Tipaimukhi dam on the country in terms of arsenic contamination, drought and desertification.
A 12-member Bangladesh delegation led by Water Resources Minister Hafizuddin Ahmed left for Mexico on Monday. They will present how the northeastern region of the country, including Surma-Kushiara basins, will be affected once the Tipaimukhi dam is constructed.
A seven-member non-government delegation comprising IUCN Country Representative Dr Ainun Nishat and Bangladesh Water Partnership Chairman Engineer Quamrul Islam Siddiqui will also join the forum, which will end on March 22.
