5 killed, 10 injured in Gazipur road accident

At least five people were killed and 10 others injured as a cloth-laden truck turned turtle and fell into a roadside ditch on Thursday night after its driver lost control over the steering at Pipulia in Kaliganj on the Dhaka-Narsingdi highway.

All the victims hailed from Narsingdi and were going to Baburhat after buying cloths from Karotia in Tangail.

The were identified as Sydur Rahman, 25, and Apu, 20, sons of Hazrat Ali, Nayan Miah, 22, son of Suruj Miah, Ratan, 18, son of Nur Tslam and Salam, 45, son of Nabi Hossain.

Of the injured, five were rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition.

Sources said the truck fell about 20 feet deep into the ditch at around 10:00pm, as it was moving past an out-of-order human hauler.

The bodies were handed over to their relatives yesterday noon after autopsy at the Gazipur Sadar Hospital.

A case has been filed with the Kaliganj police station in this connection.

Sirajganj

Another report from Sirajganj adds, at least one person was killed and six others injured in a road accident at Gabadah under Shahjadpur upazila of the district, police said yesterday.

The victim was identified as Jamidar Ali, 25, hails from Barabil area of Shahjadpur.

Police said the mishap occurred on Bagura-Nagarbari road when Shallow-engine driven Nasimon and Karimon collided head on.

The injured were admitted to local Potajia Hospital.

Meanwhile, a 50 year old man was killed and five others injured in a road accident yesterday morning at Amtala turning point in the Barisal city.

The victim was identified as Shahjahan.

The accident occurred when a Double Decker bus collided head on with a tempo.

The injured tempo passengers Chunnu Biswas, 50, Khaleq Faraji, 60, Sarwar, 30, Selim, 35 and Swapan, 25 were admitted to Sher-E-Bangla Medical College.
