7 get life in N'ganj
Seven people were sentenced to life imprisonment for murder of a college student as a sequel to dispute over property in the town two years ago.
Six convicts are stepbrothers of the victim and one is tenant. They are Bhashani Sarder, Shah Alam, Ahsanullah, Samir Hossain, Monir Hossain Mona, Shahjahan and tenant Monir Hossain. Present in the dock they were fined Tk 20,000 each, in default, to suffer one year's imprisonment.
Prosecution said Shahidullah, student of Haraganga College, went out of home on January 2, 2004. The following day, an anonymous caller over cellphone informed the victim's family that the stepbrothers abducted Shahidullah as sequel to dispute over land demanding Tk 10 lakh as ransom for his release.
