7 killed in road accidents

Our staff correspondent reports: a Ukrainian citizen was killed in a road accident at Airport Road in the city last night.

The accident occurred when a microbus hit Natasha, 25, who had been living here after getting married to a Bangladeshi citizen several years ago, while she was walking on Airport Road near Khilkhet at about 7:00pm.

She was taken to a local clinic from where she was shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital as her condition deteriorated. Natasha succumbed to her injuries at 11:00pm.

A Gazipur Correspondent reports: Three people, including a female garments worker, were killed in separate road accidents at Dhaka-Mymensingh highway near Gazipur town yesterday.

Two pedestrians including one garments workers were killed on the spot when a Sreepur-bound taxicab from Dhaka hit them at the north side of Salna flyover near Gazipur town at 8:00am as its driver lost control over the steering.

The victims were identified as garment worker Azima Begum, 32, from Parbatipur in Dinajpur and Abdur Rahim, 34, from Purabari of Gazipur town.

In another road accident one person was killed at Bhogra near Chourasta while a Dhaka-bound bus hit him.

The deceased was identified as Rashedul, 28, from Pirganj of Rangpur.

Staff Correspondent from Chittagong adds: One garments worker was killed in a road accident at the city's Olonker intersection area yesterday.

The dead was identified as Jahangir Alam, 18, son of late Dudu Mia of Bhasail in Tangail.

Police and witnesses said a bus hit Jahangir at the Olonker intersection area under Pahartali Police Station at around 8:00am when he was going to his work at a near by garments.

He was rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where the on-duty physicians declared him dead.

The victim's fellow workers went on the rampage and damaged two vehicles following the accident, sources said.

Jahangir's mother Monowara Begum filed a case with the Pahartali Police Station in this connection.

Our Jhenidah correspondent reports: Two people were killed and 15 others injured when a truck turned turtle on Jhenidah-Jessore highway near Bishoy Khali Bazar on Sunday morning.

The dead were identified as Hanif, 35, of Pabna and Rezaul Islam, 32, of Narail.

The injured are Helal, Aslam and Mannan. They have been admitted to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital.

Police say the Khulna-bound truck from Pabna fell into a roadside ditch when the driver lost control over the steering.
