8 killed in road accidents

BSS from Rangpur reports: Four people, including three unidentified women, were killed and 27 others injured in two separate road accidents on Rangpur-Bogra highway under Mithapukur upazila of the district on Tuesday night.

Police said a Bogra-bound truck from Rangpur collided head-on with another loaded truck coming from the opposite direction at Shothibari-Haripur point on the highway at about 7:30pm.

Both the trucks skidded off the highway. Thirty people, including the drivers and helpers of the trucks, were injured.

Police rushed to the spot and sent 15 injured to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) and Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex.

One pedestrian Abdus Sobhan, 50, son of late Abdul Aziz of Mohiarpur village in the upazila and two other unidentified women aged between 35 and 48 succumbed to their injuries at RMCH on Tuesday night.

Of the injured condition of seven is stated to be critical at RMCH.

In another accident, one woman street beggar, 50, was crushed by a Bogra-bound truck from Rangpur in Bazar area of Mithapukur upazila sadar at about 9:00pm on Tuesday night.

Police sent her body to RMCH immediately after the accident.

Police seized the first two trucks, but the third one managed to escape. Two separate cases were filed with Mithapukur police in these connections, the sources said.

UNB from Rajshahi adds: Two people were killed and six others injured in a collision between two tempos in Godagari upazila on Rajshahhi-Chapainawabganj highway yesterday.

Police said the accident took place at Sharenpur area at 6:00pm, leaving two people dead on the spot and six others injured.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

All the injured were admitted to the local health complex.

Our Correspondent from Sirajganj adds: At least two people were killed and six others injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Bogra highway at Chandaikona Bazar area in Raiganj upazila yesterday.

The injured were admitted to Raiganj Health Complex and local clinics.

Police and witnesses said the accident took place at about 7.30am when a Bogra-bound bus from Tarash upazila headquarters hit a pick-up van from behind.

Azizah Haque, 28, of Tarash village died on the spot while an unidentified man aged about 40, succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.

Police sent the bodies to hospital morgue for autopsy.

A case was filed with Raiganj police station in this connection.

Our Correspondent from Satkhira reports: A youngman was killed in a road accident at Nalta Bazar on Satkhira-Kaliganj road at Kaliganj upazila.

The deceased was identified as Mamun Sardar, 22 son of Abdul Ahad Sardar of Palashpole in the town.

Quoting local people police said the accident took place as Mamun lost control of the motor bike while returning home from Kaliganj.

He succumbed to his injuries on the way to Satkhira Hospital.
