83 shops gutted in fire incidents

In Sherpur, 50 shops were destroyed in a fire that broke out at Bhimganj Bazar under Sadar Upazila in the early hours of yesterday, reports BDNEWS.

Fire Brigade sources said an electrical short-circuit sparked off the blaze.

The fire fighters extinguished the blaze after a struggle for about three hours.

Valuables worth about Tk one crore were damaged in the fire, said the traders of the market.

UNB adds: thirty-three shops were gutted and 20 people, including two fire fighters, injured when a fire broke out at Shashibhushan Bazar in Charfashion upazila on Monday night.

Local people said an electrical short-circuit at a shop sparked off the fire, which soon engulfed nearby shops.

Market sources estimated the loss from the blaze at about Tk 1.50 crore.

Fire fighters extinguished the blaze after a struggle for five hours. Of the injured, Akter Hossain, 25, was admitted to a local hospital.

BSS reports: A huge quantity of garment products and machinery were gutted in a fire at a textile mill at Kutubail in Fatullah, Narayanganj, on Tuesday.

Fire Service and mill authority sources said the fire in the export-oriented Iran Textile Ltd originated from an electrical short-circuit at 4:00 am and soon engulfed the finishing section, located on the ground floor of the three-storey building.

Fire fighters from Narayanganj and Hajiganj rushed to the scene and extinguished the blaze after one and a half hours, efforts.

A huge quantity of foreign dye and chemicals were also destroyed, sources said.
