90 telephones go out of order at Mirpur daily

Officials of Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB) in Mirpur Telephone Division said yesterday 100-200 meters of telephone cable are stolen almost everyday disrupting about 100 phones in the zone.

"Despite our good intention, we cannot render better service to our clients. There is an organised gang of cable thieves. We approached law enforcement agencies, including Rab, for stern steps, but all our appeals fell into the deaf ears of the concerned authorities. We badly need their help for ensuring better service to the subscribers," an official said on condition of anonymity.

He said they had sent letters to high officials of the law enforcing agencies and local ward commissioners, but to no effect.

He said the stolen cables go to a factory in Savar.
