Abducted boy rescued, one arrested

The boy, Sajid Hasan Lin, was kidnapped from his house at North Kafrul in Dhaka on Thursday. Enamul Haq, a mason, who lives in a rented room adjacent to the child's in the same building, was arrested on charge of kidnapping him.

Family sources said Sajid was playing on the stairs of the house around 12:00 noon on Thursday when Enamul took him out by luring him with chocolates. The boy had been missing since then.

"Later, the kidnapper called on my mobile phone demanding a ransom of Tk 2 lakh for the release of my son," said Lovely Begum.

Kafrul police stepped in to rescue the child after his father filed a case on Friday.

The kidnapper again called the child's house, but this time Sub- Inspector Kamal Hussain, posing as the father of the child, talked with the kidnapper who agreed to meet him at a place to receive the ransom.

A few minutes after the kidnapper hung up the phone, the sub-inspector called back the number only to find that the call was made from a phone shop at Rajoir.

The sub-inspector then informed the owner of the shop of the abduction and ordered him to immediately capture the abductor.

The shop owner with the help of the local people managed to capture Enamul with the child. On receiving information, the police arrested him yesterday.

Enamul confessed to the police that he along with his friend Azam had been planning to kidnap the child for the last one month.
