Accept reform proposal for fair election

"Mere exchange of letters in the name of dialogue will not yield any result, we are to take street to realise our demand for reforms," he said while addressing a rally in the city.

The rally was organised at the east gate of historic Racecourse Maidan (Suhrawardi Udyan) before bringing out a large Independence Day procession from there. The procession ended in front of Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi.

Jalil, also co-ordinator of the 14-party alliance, said discussion on reform proposals might continue across the table, but the demands would have to be realised through united movements.

"We are not agitating to oust anyone or help others go to power. We are agitating only for a free and neutral election to ensure people's rights and establish a people's government," he said urging the party men to continue anti-government movement to realise the demands.

AL Presidium Member Abdur Razzak, who presided over the rally, said the government has proposed the dialogue over the reform proposals only to cheat the countrymen.

"When we placed the reform proposals last year, the government did not pay any heed and now they are killing time in the name of sending letter for dialogue on the reform issue," he said.

AL leaders Tofael Ahmed, Suranjitsen Gupta, Matia Chowdhury, Obaidul Quader, Mukul Bose, Abdur Rahman and Mofazzel Hossain Chowdhury Maya also spoke.
