Activities to be expanded at upazila level

The decision was taken at the 28th meeting of the standing committee on the Ministry of Cultural Affairs held at the Sangsad Bhaban yesterday, an official handout said.

The meeting further informed that so far Shilpakala complexes have been established in 63 districts and 6 upazilas.

Committee Chairman Prof Shahidul Islam presided over the meeting while Advocate Abul Kalam, Alhaj Shafi Ahmed Chowdhury and Masud Arun attended.

The meeting discussed formulation of policies for bringing about dynamism in the cultural activities and strengthening Shilpakala Academy programmes at the district and upazila levels.

It also discussed the reports placed by the ministry on completion of proper investigation into the allegation of corruption in the construction work of Paharpur and Bagerhat projects.

The meeting recommended taking necessary steps to recover the Khasporan idol from Banaripara, Barisal.

Cultural Affairs Secretary Abdul Qaiyum and other officials attended the meeting.
