Addict kills stepson in city

The dead was identified as Jewel, stepson of Alam, a trash collector, and Kulsum Begum, a lozenge vendor.

Locals said the couple, resident of Palashi slum at Lalbagh, often locked into feuds over money after Alam got married to Kulsum four months ago.

Alam yesterday afternoon started beating his wife as she refused to pay money to buy drugs. At one stage he dragged the child from her lap and punched him in the chest leaving him dead.

Hearing her cry, locals held Alam and handed him to Lalbagh police after a good beating.
