Addl PS at Bagmara demanded

Several hundreds of people and professionals under the banner of Thana Bastobayan Committee staged demonstrations blocking all road communications with the upazila.

All schools, colleges, offices and banks remained closed during the hartal hours.

They brought out processions and held a rally presided by the Committee Convener Ashraful Islam. Akhtaruzzaman, Abu Taher, Abdul Aziz, Zahangir Kabir, Muhammad Ali and Mujibur Rahman, among others, spoke at the rally.

The speakers said, Bagmara is a big upazila of 16 unions and 2 municipalities and maintaining law and order is quite difficult for only one police station.

Besides, they pleaded that most of the times the policemen remain busy with the incidents of eastern Bagmara region that is crammed with outlaws and militants. Two BNP lawmakers promised for a separate police station, but did not keep their promises in last ten years, they complained.

They announced that BNP candidates will not be allowed to campaign ahead of the upcoming election if they do not establish a full-fledged PS within two months.
