AL leader Titu stabbed by party rivals in Jessore

He was rushed to the operation theatre of Jessore Sadar Hospital in a serious condition, relatives said.

Khaledur Rahman, who was a minister in HM Ershad's government, joined the Awami League a few months ago and is a potential candidate in the upcoming parliamentary election.

AL sources said Khaledur Rahman along with his men Abdar and Saifuzzaman was taking tea at a roadside stall at old Chuadanga bus stand at about 7:30pm when about 30 activists of Nabil-Raja group of Awami League appeared there and started assaulting Abdar.

They stabbed Khaledur Rahman indiscriminately when he tried to resist them.

In a sharp reaction, his supporters took out a violent procession immediately and beat up supporters of Nabil-Raja group.

Tension was running high in the town. Policemen were deployed at different points to avert any trouble.
