Assault of Janakantha reporter condemned
Tapan Biswas, staff reporter of the daily Janakantha, was assaulted allegedly by State Minister for Housing and Public Works Alamgir Kabir at his secretariat office on Sunday while he was on a professional assignment there.
He was kept captive for an hour in the rest room of the minister.
The information and research sun-committee of the main opposition Awami League yesterday condemned the incident.
"The incident proves that the journalists are endangered not only by the terrorists, but also the ministers and MPs of the alliance government," it said in a statement.
They, however, criticised the government for politicisation of the mass media especially the electronic media.
Besides, Ain O Shalish Kendro (ASK) in a statement condemned the incident and demanded neutral probe into the incident.
Bangladesh Sramik League Dhaka city unit in a statement also condemned the incident.
