Bail order prompts prosecution lawyers to stage protest

Sources and eyewitnesses said the lawyers became enraged when Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Shafiqul Islam passed the bail order after a long hearing on the case.

In the face of agitation by the lawyers, the magistrate adjourned the hearing of other cases and left the courtroom.

After half an hour, the magistrate took his seat again and heard the remaining cases, fixed for hearing yesterday.

Earlier at about 12:30pm, both the prosecution and the defence took part in the hearing on a petition bail for three accused -- Faruque Iqbal, Ibrahim and Yusuf -- in an attempted murder case filed with Khilgaon Police Station in June this year.

After the hearing, the court granted bail to two of the accused Ibrahim and Yusuf while another's bail was rejected.
